August 2022: Foundation Concrete Pour
Concrete Pour Begins
On Aug. 6, the concrete slab was poured at the Global HQ site. The pour began early in the day, and the project continued through mid-afternoon as 150 truckloads of concrete were delivered.
Rebar Reinforcement
Building Our Future workers navigated a maze of rebar as they prepared for the concrete foundation to be poured.
Filling with Concrete
Large mechanical arms piped liquid concrete into every crack and crevice of the 36-story tower's foundation.
Extended Concrete Truck
Construction workers expertly guided the mechanical arms of the concrete truck so that the concrete was poured in the right place at the right time.
Rebar and Core Components
The concrete, together with 150 tons of steel rebar and additional core construction components, will provide major structural support for the building.
Keeping Everything in Place
Pre-casted blocks of concrete helped to add weight to foundation elements during the pour, ensuring everything stayed securely in place.
Special Considerations for a Big Pour
The mechanical arms of the concrete trucks had to be anchored to the ground to ensure stability as they were emptied.
Levelling Concrete
Wearing thick rubber boots and other protective gear, the construction workers smoothed the liquid concrete and leveled out the surface before it began to cure.
Teamwork Ensures Quality
It was all-hands-on-deck for the foundation concrete pour at the new Global HQ.
Completed Foundation Pour
In total, 1500 yards of concrete were used for the foundation of the 36-story tower. This volume of concrete equates to approximately 4.6 miles of a typical 5-foot-wide sidewalk. The completed slab of concrete took many days to fully cure, even in the midst of a hot Ohio summer.
