Building Our Future Crews Observe National Construction Safety Week

The Building Our Future sites observed National Construction Safety Week in early May with a variety of activities and learning opportunities offered by the construction management teams. The theme for the weeklong observation – “Strong Voices, Safe Choices” – was reflected throughout the lineup of events, which included, among other highlights:

  • A series of daily Toolbox Talks spotlighting a selection of safety topics
  • A presentation addressing Mental Health Awareness from special guest experts with Stella Maris
  • Demonstrations focused on safe ladder use and rigging and lifting techniques
  • Discussion of the latest tools and personal protective equipment to stay safe on the jobsite

To kick off the week of observation, Sherwin-Williams hosted a luncheon for the dedicated construction workers at the headquarters site on Monday, May 1, 2023. Various members of the Company’s Project Leadership Team were in attendance.

John Morikis, Sherwin-Williams Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and Heidi Petz, Sherwin-Williams President and Chief Operating Officer, spoke to the work crew at the downtown Headquarters site. They highlighted the importance of prioritizing safety on the Building Our Future project and acknowledged the exciting progress on the new buildings.

Sherwin-Williams Environmental, Health and Safety Director Erik Shamberger also delivered remarks about our Company’s emphasis on safety and the approach we take to ensure our workers remain safe on the job.

Marking the close of the weeklong observation, Sherwin-Williams also hosted a luncheon at the Research & Development site at Brecksville, Ohio, on May 5. Sherwin-Williams Environmental, Health and Safety Director of Strategic Initiatives Ray Kovacs shared real-life examples to illustrate the importance of maintaining a safety-focused mindset.

The construction crews at both locations enjoyed a few rounds of safety-themed trivia. Those who answered correctly in the shortest amount of time received gift cards. Each worker also received a Building Our Future branded cooling towel to use during the summer.

By the end of the week, the Building Our Future construction crews demonstrated increased awareness and renewed energy for the topic of workplace safety.
